Bruce Henderson, Senior Advisor

Bruce Henderson is a force of nature. The kind that gently and collaboratively leads teams to build something better. As a recognized national leader in value-based care, he brings 50+ years of senior leadership experience to help healthcare organizations navigate the radically changing industry, sustainably grow, and deepen impact. We’re fortunate he’s on our team as Senior Advisor.
Bruce became interested in healthcare in his early 20s to make a real difference in people’s lives. He sought out every opportunity to learn. When his dad had a medical appointment, Bruce asked to accompany him. He asked the doctor to join him for rounds. The doctor introduced Bruce to the surgeon, and, you guessed it, Bruce asked to observe the procedure. “I kept asking to learn, and nobody ever said no.”

Bruce pursued a Master of Health Services Management with a focus in Business Administration. At only 26, he was recruited to be the CEO of a medical center in Houston. “It was the scariest thing I’ve ever done. But others believed in me, so I needed to believe in myself.” He went on to grow the hospital system with new services and facilities while creating a regional footprint.

Bruce’s career accomplishments are impressive. A few highlights include:

  • Launching and scaling a regional HMO
  • Acquiring and merging physician practices into a 110-physician, multi-specialty group
  • Building a company focused on value-based care joint ventures

Bruce attributes his success to his people-centered approach. He thrives on building strong teams with high-performing cultures that attract and retain great talent. “I got to know myself well,” he recalls. “The better you know yourself, the more effective you will be.

In 2016, Bruce met Kristin A. Kelly while serving as Navigant Consulting’s Managing Director and Partnership Practice Leader. When he launched his executive coaching practice a few years later, she signed up.

Bruce has been integral to Kristin’s leadership journey and the launch of Voyageur Health Advisory. Today, he collaborates with our leadership team to define how we show up for ourselves and our clients. He also advises on large-scale opportunities and serves as a trusted go-to for CEOs and senior executives.

Nothing brings a bigger smile to Bruce’s face than his family — Connie, his wife of 52 years, his four adult children, and his five grandsons. He enjoys cycling, hiking, boating, and golfing, and is a proud and invested member of his NE Cincinnati community.

While Bruce no longer travels five days a week, his impact hasn’t slowed. “Healthcare has become unnecessarily complicated. It’s time to rethink the industry at the macro level around our common goal: better outcomes and healthier people. Then we need to be brave enough to move on it.” That’s the work Bruce is leading, and we’re excited to shape the future of healthcare together.
